The dorsal and anal fins are connected to approximately the midpoint of the caudal fin. Eyes are nearly contiguous and there is no a tentacle. Pectoral fin is shorter than the eye and has 11 rays on the side with eyes while the pectoral fin on the blind side is relatively smaller. The scales are distinctly ctenoid on both sides of the body. The side with eyes appears greyish with 12–13 darker crossbars that are broader than the interspaces. The posterior part of the caudal fin features a blackish circular area bordered by yellowish white and it contains several bright yellow spots and blotches in the center.
