Description:
The plants have a prominent or percussent cylindrical main axis that varies in thickness, and they are upright and loosely branching. Stichidia, or inflated branches, are visible as swelled bands at the center, close to the base, or infrequently near the tips of the last branch ends. Branches are simple and filiform (thread-like), but they can occasionally fork and are clearly oriented at a right angle to the axis. 10–30 cm in height. Thallus is colored a medium to dark reddish-brown.
