The plants exhibit a color ranging from brownish to reddish-yellow. They have a cylindrical shape and possess a texture that can vary from fleshy to somewhat cartilaginous. They display irregular branching and are anchored to rocks by means of a disc-shaped holdfast. The branches are consistently adorned with short branchlets that have a narrow base. The tips of these structures are either pointed or divided into two. The thallus consists of a single layer of cortical cells and a central medulla composed of large, oval-shaped cells.
