Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Malacostraca
Order: Decapoda
Family: Portunidae
Description:
The carapace is smooth, generally round, and slightly convex. In adult specimens, the width normally measures between 7 and 9 cm, making it wider than longer. There may be minor color differences on the legs and claws (chelae), which frequently have a deeper tint at the tips. Although the chelae’s color can vary, it usually resembles the carapace’s hue or is somewhat darker. It possesses five pairs of legs, the first of which has been altered to become powerful, huge claws (chelae). The final pair of legs of crabs in the Portunidae family is flattened and shaped like a paddle, making it ideal for swimming. The tiny hairs on the slender walking legs let them glide across the ground. As is common with crabs, the abdomen is folded under the body. The abdominal flap is larger and rounder in females to hold eggs, but it is small and triangular in men. The eves are situated on small, movable stalks that are attached to the carapace’s front. Because of the well-developed eyes, one may see well enough to identify both prey and predators.
