The body has a cylindrical shape and multiple rows of teeth are observable in both jaws even when the mouth is closed. The pectoral fin is elongated. There are 9 pelvic fin rays of approximately equal length. The lateral line extends to the base of the caudal fin. There are 11–12 rays in the dorsal fin and 14 rays in the pectoral fin. The upper part of the body is brownish, while the lower part is silvery-white. The upper half of the pectoral fin and the distal portions of the dorsal fin and the lower caudal lobe are dusky.
