Description:
Body is cylindrical in shape and the head and caudal peduncle are somewhat flattened. Teeth are visible in multiple rows in both jaws, even when the mouth is closed. Pectoral fin is short and there are typically 12 dorsal fin rays, occasionally ranging from 11 to 13. The pectoral fin usually has 14 to 15 rays. There are three rows of teeth on the outer palatines. In terms of coloration, the back and sides are brown or coppery brown, while the belly is pale or silvery. The distal parts of the dorsal and paired fins, especially the caudal fin appear dusky with no other distinctive markings.
