Description:
Body is short and deep, featuring a rounded snout and a small mouth. There are two dorsal fins: the first has 6 spines and the second has 1 spine and 19-21 soft rays. The anal fin consists of 2 short, detached spines followed by 1 spine and 16-18 soft rays. Both the soft dorsal and anal fin lobes are shorter than the head. The pectoral fins are short and the scales are small, cycloid and partially embedded in the skin. The lateral line is very slightly arched over the pectoral finsand without scutes. There are no distinct spots, dark blotches, or other color marks on the body. The coloration includes a bluish-grey or greenish back, silvery sides and ventrum without distinctive markings, and dark fins, with the lobes of the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins being darker to black.
