Upright, sub dichotomously branching, terete to slightly compressed, multiaxial thallus. With a cortex that is 2-4 cells broad and an outer layer of large, colorless utricles, with or without rhodoplastic ovoid cells between them, the medullary core is composed of numerous, slender, branched filaments that are typically less than 20% of the thallus diameter in width. Tiny, filamentous, branched tetrasporophytes are not found in other species. Colored from red to reddish pink
