A slender mudskipper, greenish-grey in color displaying narrow dark grey to bluish bars along the side along with dark wavy bars and a black margin on the caudal fin. The cheek and body feature scattered bluish to black speckles and the second dorsal fin has tiny bluish spots. In males, there is a distinctive white ring around the eye. Notably, there is a prominent barbel on the ventral midline near the symphysis of the lower jaw. Upper jaw bears 19-31 teeth and the trunk is adorned with 4-7 vertical, narrow, bluish-grey bars. There are no large black spots or stripes at the base of the posterior half of the second dorsal fin. The second dorsal fin and anal fin are connected by a membrane to the caudal fin.
