Description:
D1 IV; D2 I/9; P1 15; P2 I/5; A III/9. Color of head and body silvery, darkened dorsally; dusky longitudinal stripes on body; caudal fin bluish with dusky narrow margin. Body moderately robust and compressed posteriorly; no elongate scale above pectoral-fin base. Head width subequal to depth, flattened dorsally; adipose eyelid weakly developed posteriorly, not covering iris. Second dorsal and anal fins pointed but not falcate; caudal fin emarginate. Scales ctenoid.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Form schools in shallow coastal waters and enters lagoons, estuaries, and fresh water to feed. Juveniles may enter rice fields and mangroves.
