The species has a more oval body, with a depth measuring 2.7–3.2 times in standard length (SL). The lower jaw teeth are closely spaced and weakly differentiated. It typically has 24–25 soft dorsal fin rays, 17–19 pectoral fin rays, and 10–12 slender gill rakers on the lower limb of the 1st gill arch. The 2nd anal fin spine is long, measuring 2.6–3.9 times in head length (HL), and the caudal fin is weakly S-shaped. The coloration includes a pinkish-grey head and body on the back, becoming paler ventrally with golden reflections on the head. The gill cover features a diffuse dark blotch, and the spinous dorsal fin has a thin black margin, while the soft dorsal fin exhibits a series of dark spots along the base.
