Description:
The anterior end of each nasal bone features a sharp forward-directed spine projecting to or beyond the median part of the upper lip. There are 3½ scale rows above the lateral line to the middle of the spinous portion of the dorsal fin. A short, stout spine is present at the corner of the preopercle. There are 29 lateral line scales and 16–17 pectoral fin rays. The gill rakers on the 1st gill arch number 10–12 on the upper limb and 16–18 on the lower limb. The body is uniformly red with no white markings.
