It has large, broad flippers resemble paddles. There is a horizontal mouthline. The head can move freely, and there is a crease in the neck. The animal’s color is blue grey; it is paler on the belly and darker above. Typically, the species may be determined just by looking at the body shape. The skull of the Irrawaddy Dolphin is unique. The upper jaw has 12–20 pairs of teeth, whereas the lower jaw has 12–18 teeth on each side. The teeth resemble pegs.
