The fish has 10 dorsal spines, 9 dorsal soft rays, 3 anal spines, and 7 anal soft rays. It lacks a suborbital spine, and the preopercle has 3 transverse scale rows. The pectoral fins are long, reaching beyond the level of the anus, while the pelvic fins are moderately long, reaching to between just short of and just beyond the level of the anus. A line drawn up from the posterior edge of the suborbital reaches the dorsal profile about 2 to 7 scale rows before the origin of the dorsal fin. The upper lobe of the caudal fin is falcate, tipped with bright yellow, and there is an axillary scale. In terms of color, the upper body is pinkish mauve, while the lower part is silvery white. There is a yellow teardrop-shaped bar beneath the eye, extending obliquely halfway to the suborbital.
