Firstorsal fin spine is considerably shorter than the second spine and is positioned near its base. The dorsal fin comprises 9–10 spines and 12–14 soft rays, while the anal fin features 2 spines and 10–14 soft rays. There are 14–18 gill rakers on the first gill arch, and the body lacks scales. The pectoral fins are notably long, with the 3rd or 4th rays being the longest and extending beyond the base of the last anal ray. In terms of color, the fish is dark grey and the young ones exhibit pale spots, transitioning to white on the ventral side. The outer portion of the median fins is dark grey with the pectoral fins becoming increasingly dark towards the tips. Inside of the pectoral fins is light grey and the pelvic fins are dark grey with pale spots.
