Description:
Shell medium, subtrigonal, ovate, rather inflated, relatively elongate. Umbones almost in front of the middle of the valves. Shell solid, slightly inequilateral. Outside smooth, with fine concentric growth lines. Lateral hinge teeth well- developed, 2 strong inverted V-shaped cardinal teeth. Well-developed lateral hinge teeth, 1 anterior and 1 posterior in left valve; 2 anterior and 2 posterior in the right valve of all mactran species. Pallial sinus shallow, rounded. Colour: outside cream coloured with dark brown circular lines and radial bands, posterolateral side dark violet or mauve. Inside creamy-white around the central area and the pallial line; ventral side light orange and posterolateral margin mauve-like. Periostracum straw coloured.
