Description:
The color ranges from grey to pale brown, featuring black spots on the head, body and fins. These spots tend to decrease in size as the fish matures. They have an elongated body. The dorsal profile of the head is raised above and behind the eye. Snout can be short to elongated and the mouth is large with the gape typically extending beyond the posterior margin of the eye. Posterior nostrils are positioned high on the head. The development of dorsal and anal fins varies and they have well developed eyes. Pectoral and pelvic fins are absent.
