Description:
Shell is medium-sized and rounded-subquadrate in outline. Periostracum is velvety, meaning the outer covering of the shell is soft and has a velvety texture. Inner surface is crenulated. Hinge has broad plates. Exterior is brown, with irregular whitish flecks on the umbones and posterior third of valves. The umbones are the pointed ends of the shell, and the posterior third of the valves is the back third of the shell. Inside of the shell is white with a purplish-brown tint in the back.
