Description:
D1 VIII-IX/21; D2 absent; P1 17; P2 I/5; A III/18. Color of head and body silvery with 4-10 vertical dark bars usually visible on dorsal part of body from head to caudal-fin base. Body very deep, strongly compressed. Snout profile straight or concave; mouth terminal and protrusible, forming a downwardpointing tube when protruded. Pectoral fins long, falciform, reaching caudal peduncle.
