This soft coral belongs to the Cladiellidae family and is classified as an octocoral lacking a skeletal axis. The colony has a encrusting and fleshy structure, earning it the common name “finger blanching soft coral” due to its short stalk and stubby projections resembling fingers that are round to cone-shaped. When the polyps are extended, the coral appears brown, but poking it causes the polyps to retract into the leathery base tissue, giving it a white appearance. The colonies are small but densely packed, creating the illusion of a larger structure, and the overall color is a brownish hue with a fuzzy texture.
