Tetrasporangia are found on the upper portions of the filaments. The plants are of a dark red hue, characterized by their filamentous and branching structure. They exhibit both creeping and upright axes, attached to surfaces by single-celled rhizoids. The ascending fronds emerge from the cortical cells at the nodes, while the erect axis undergoes sub-dichotomous branching in a single plane. Typically, there are 2 to 4 segments observed between each dichotomous split.
