This species is characterized by a single postmaxillary process, featuring small conical teeth in the jaws, vomer, and palatines. The anal fin displays 3 spines and 12 rays. The supratemporal bands of scales are often interrupted at the dorsal midline, with a scaleless zone forming a V-shape anteriorly at the midline, intruding between the supratemporal bands of scales.
In terms of coloration, the upper body appears bluish, while the lower body is white to pale bluish, featuring a single yellow stripe bordered above and below by a white or light blue stripe. The caudal fin lobes exhibit a black median streak, and the axil of the pectoral fins has a black triangular patch.
