Description:
The flat, horizontal axes lie flat on a solid surface, anchored using disk-shaped haptera that form on regular branches. The thallus is made up of multiple siphons and does not have a cortex. Tetrasporangia develop in stichidia, which are flat extensions found on the regular branches. The primary axes and branches exhibit a regular pattern, are polysiphonous, and lack a cortex. These plants have a color that ranges from a subdued purple to brown. The thalli are filamentous and extend horizontally with somewhat upright branches, forming a shallow turf on the substrate that’s about 1-2 centimeters thick.
