The crab has an oval body with a smooth surface and a smooth body edge. It is also known as the Shawl crab because of the lacy white pattern on its shell that resembles a shawl. The large pincers are both about the same size and are smooth with black tips that are spoon-shaped. Males may have larger pincers than females. The walking legs are thick and squarish with lilac edges, and they are not hairy.
