Description:
Gelatinous, unbranched, purple-black filaments that are initially uniseriate and thereafter multiseriate, connected by rhizoidal outgrowths from the basal and neighboring cells. cells with a pyrenoid-filled, star-shaped rhodoplast in the center. yellowish brown to brownish purple in general. The female plant is purplish red, whereas the male plant is yellowish red.
