Description:
The plants have a light brown hue, a somewhat calcified upper surface, and exhibit a fan-shaped, irregularly divided and branched structure. They are anchored by conical rhizoidal holdfasts. Growth lines are closely spaced and traverse all the branches. Growth occurs from the marginal meristem along the leading edge of the blade, with apical cells enclosed within the rolled margin at the frond’s terminal parts. The blades are typically two to several cells thick and do not show a distinct separation into medulla and cortex. Hairs are found in alternating concentric lines on both sides of the thallus.
