The thallus has a tubular, filamentous structure with numerous slender branchlets. Cells are typically aligned in longitudinal rows, although this arrangement may be somewhat disturbed in upper sections and to some degree in transverse rows. In the upper part of the thallus, cells are typically angular and four-sided, while in the stipe, they are more rounded and larger. Most cells contain chloroplasts.
