This fish, featuring a spiny dorsal fin membrane, exhibits distinct coloration characteristics. The membrane is jet black between the 1st and 2nd spines, somewhat to noticeably less dark between the 2nd and 3rd spines, and pale between the 3rd and 5th spines. The head’s outline between the base of the 1st dorsal fin spine and the eyes is somewhat convex in front of the spine and then straight or slightly concave over the eye. In terms of coloration, the dorsal half of the body is a silvery light brown, contrasting with the silvery white ventral half. Irregular dark yellow blotches adorn the mid-body, and the soft dorsal, anal, and pectoral fins have a pale hue.
