This fish is identified by having 10 dorsal spines, 9 dorsal soft rays, 3 anal spines, and 7 anal soft rays. It lacks a suborbital spine and has three transverse scale rows on the preopercle. The pectoral fins are moderately long, reaching about the level of the anus. The pelvic fins are very long, extending between the level of the origin of the anal fin and the third anal spine. A line drawn up from the posterior edge of the suborbital reaches the dorsal profile about 1 to 4 scale rows before the origin of the dorsal fin. The upper lobe of the caudal fin is slightly rounded with a reddish tip. In terms of coloration, the upper body is pinkish, and the lower body is silvery. There is a faint yellow stripe through the nostril and a golden yellow stripe from the upper lip to below the eye.
