Description:
The body is elongated and fusiform with a slight lateral compression.Teeth are small and conical. There are two dorsal fins that are separated by only a narrow interspace and two flaps (interpelvic process) between the pelvic fins. In adults, the second dorsal and anal fins are greatly elongated. There are 26–34 gill rakers on the 1st gill arch and a swim bladder is present. The coloration consists of a metallic dark blue on the back, transitioning through yellow to silver on the belly. The dorsal and anal fins as well as the dorsal and anal finlets are bright yellow with the finlets having a narrow black border.
