It is a small, elongated fish with jugular pelvic fins, a lengthy slender ray extending from the head’s top, and dorsal and anal fins with long bases. It is distinguished by its rounded caudal fin, scales on the gill covers, dark pigment on the upper part of the snout, lack of pigment on the isthmus, and a range of 58-67 dorsal-fin rays. Dorsal head profile is clearly convex and scales are ctenoid.
