Description:
The fish has 15 gill rakers on the first arch and an elongated body. Its head is large, broad, and features a short, prominent snout with a granular head shield. The mouth is wide and inferior, extending well beyond the eye, with a single row of incisor-like, compressed teeth in each jaw. Three pairs of short barbels are present, and the gill membranes are posteriorly free with a notch. The short dorsal fin has a serrated spine, as does the pectoral fin spine. The adipose fin base is much shorter than the anal fin base. The body is dark blue above, silvery-white below, with iridescent grey on the back and sides, and the fins are yellowish.
