Description:
Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7. Anal soft rays: 16 – 30. Profile of the head is concave at the nape. The head shield is strongly rugose and granulated. The supra-occipital process is short about as long as it is broad with a median keel and a concave hind end. Both the dorsal and pectoral fins have very strong, thick, and coarsely granulated spines. Tip of the dorsal spine extends into a long filament. The adipose fin is rather large. The body has a metallic blue luster. The tip of the dorsal fin is blackish with its filament also being black. The pectoral, pelvic and anal fins are dusky while the caudal fin is paler. The adipose fin is either entirely black or bears a large black blotch on the upper half.
