The male crab has a triangular carapace with a broad, lateral angle. Its major cheliped is usually longer than the palm, and the distal tube cheliped is relatively thick and curves distinctly. The female crab has a triangular carapace with a sharp, lateral angle. Its anterolateral margin (front edge) is short or absent, and the floor of the orbit has a row of 14-16 tubercles. Each finger of the cheliped has a conspicuous tooth on the occlusal margin.
