The outer row of the upper jaw contains between four to 16 teeth while the outer row of the lower jaw has 8 – 13 teeth. There are 69 – 98 longitudinal scale rows. The coloration is reddish-pink on the head and body though not uniform. The cheek, dorsum anteriorly and prepeduncular area are notably bright red. The Ventral to the pectoral-fin base is dusky. All fins are translucent. The overall coloration is white with a rosy tint which can vary in brightness during different seasons. Distal margins of the median fins are gray and the caudal, pectoral as well as pelvic fins are either white or tinged with yellow.
