This species typically exhibits cells ranging in size from 80 to 400 µm in length, and their distinctive feature is their pronounced dorsoventral flattening. The apical horn is notably elongated and slender, with a blunt tip at the end. Additionally, the antapical horns are straight in shape and typically culminate in pointed, closed tips. As you move towards the distal ends of the antapical horns, they tend to slightly separate from each other. In some cases, a third antapical horn might also be present, further enhancing the unique appearance of this species. It has the ability to form short chains of cells, and it’s noteworthy for its wide salinity tolerance, enabling it to thrive in diverse aquatic environments with varying salt concentrations.
