The cells have a flat, disc-like shape with gently curved edges and tend to cluster together in flexible chains of different lengths. When viewed in water mounts, the connecting thread between these cells may seem like a single thickened thread near the valve’s surface. However, this thread is actually composed of several individual central strut-like structures, which can be observed in electron micrographs when looking at the valve. Additionally, the valve surface displays radial ribs. There are more of these strut-like structures, accompanied by a variable number of small pores, distributed across the valve’s surface. Furthermore, there is one labiate process present.
