In the view from the side (girdle view), the cells have a quadrangular shape with corners that appear beveled. The valve mantle is relatively narrow, and the valve itself is flat, with a slight depression in the center. The strutted processes have short external tubes. The valve structure is fine, featuring small openings (areolae) arranged in straight radial rows, forming numerous narrow sectors. Each valve has a single intercalary band with a thickened connection between the band and the girdle. The connecting thread is as long as or longer than the pervalvar axis. Notably, no resting spores have been observed in this species. This species closely resembles T. nordenskioeldii, with key distinguishing characteristics being smaller strutted processes, a narrower valve margin, and longer connecting threads in T. aestivalis.
