Like other Rays this species generally lies on the bottom, almost completely buried in the sand or soil sediment. They move in large schools and settle in an area of the bottom camouflaging themselves by their grayish-brown colour. When caught or stepped on, this species lashes it’s tail and impedes a spine in the body of the – catchers and causes pain and injury. Feeds on worms, crustaceans and molluscs, which they crush with their flat teeth. Predominantly marine, inhabits shallow waters of all Oceans.
