Description:
The fish has 3 dorsal spines and 27-31 dorsal soft rays, while it lacks anal spines and has 24-28 anal soft rays. Juveniles are sand-colored with numerous thin black pinstripes. Adult males display an oblique yellow band extending from the corner of the mouth backward and another band under the chin.
