Description:
Black helmet with white forehead chevron and black-tipped yellow bill characterize breeding plumage. Easily recognized by their small size, however wintering adults may have patterns that are confusingly similar to those of Common Terns; keep an eye out for black stripes that run from the tip of the wing to the shoulder.
