Description:
Elegant, medium-sized tern with a black head and a thin, yellow-orange bill. Similar in appearance to the Great Crested Tern; however, the Lesser Crested has a comparatively longer and more orange bill. Moreover, observe its gray upperwing, which sets it apart from Sandwich Tern. If observed closely, the gray tail and rump can be diagnostic. Observe lifeless legs, dark-centered secondaries, and a feeble upperwing pattern on juveniles.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
It occurs in the offshore islands like the Sonadia, Saint Martin’s to nearshore areas, estuaries and along coast of the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh
