Slender seabird that resembles a gull; the middle-sized jaeger species. challenging to distinguish from other jaegers. Unlike Long-tailed Jaegers, breeding adults have a long, pointed tail. The overall plumage ranges from a rich blackish-brown to a milder color with a white belly and a yellowish side to the neck. Although they vary, immature birds often have warm brown wings with cinnamon bars. Its underwing and undertail are not as strong as Pomarine Jaeger’s. Between the Pomarine and the Long-tailed, it is intermediate in shape and flying technique. Usually has four to six outermost wing feathers with white shafts; this is more than Long-tailed but fewer than Pomarine. Bill is a slim, quite long.
