One of the three jaegers, a tiny, slender seabird that resembles a gull. Adults that breed have remarkably long, pointed tails. Observe also the limited crisp black cap, the pale yellow on the side of the neck, and the uniform brownish back that contrasts with the dark flight feathers. The striking scaly pattern on the wings of immature birds ranges in color from dark brown to a light grayish white. Observe buoyant, tern-like flight at all ages. usually only has two outermost wing feathers with white shafts on them (fewer than other jaegers). Comparatively speaking to other jaegers, the bill is broader and shorter.
