Description:
The fish has 6 dorsal spines, 9 dorsal soft rays, 2 anal spines and 9 anal soft rays. Its body is elongated and sub-cylindrical, covered in small cycloid scales. Head is long and pointed with a large horizontal mouth and the tip of the lower jaw protrudes. The intermaxilla is non-protractile and the preoperculum is broadly rounded. Lower limb of the first gill arch has spiny tubercles. The first dorsal fin originates opposite or before the tip of the pectoral fin with the first spine shorter than the second. The overall coloration is generally blackish above and silvery below.
