There is no midrib, but there are extensions growing upwards from the margin. Cryptostomata, small pores, are present on the surface. The medullary cells are large and have a parenchymatous structure, with irregular and rectangular shapes towards the outer layer. The sporangial sori are not very prominent and have a rectangular shape, containing black or brown tetrasporangia. These tetrasporangia are either square or elongated and are scattered on both surfaces of the thallus. The plants are sizable and stand upright, with an olive-green coloration. The thallus is flat, thick, and rubbery, characterized by irregular to somewhat dichotomous branching, with a linear shape and an uneven surface. The underside of the thallus is wedge-shaped.
