Description:
It has deep body and that becomes more elongated and highly compressed as it grows. The profile of the head and nape is somewhat angular and the suborbital depth is relatively broad. Pectoral fins are falcate and longer than the head. There are 21–26 lower gill rakers and sometimes anal fin rays may be filamentous even in adults. The predominant coloration is mostly silvery with a dusky green tint dorsally. Juveniles have dark bars on the body. Dorsal fin is pale with dusky leading edges at the tips of the rays while the anal fin is pale yellow and the caudal fin is dusky green.
