Description:
The cells are cylindrical with a diameter of 12-18 µm and a length up to 575 µm. They can exist singly or in chains. Valves are oblique with a pointed shape and a hollow apical process that has small wings at the base, decreasing in size toward the tip. Intercalary bands are numerous and resemble scale-like triangular structures in two rows. These bands overlap on each side of the apex and feature ribs radiating fan-like from the middle line, with around 17-18 ribs in 10 µm. The girdle bands and valves are delicate, with girdle bands having 19-22 pervalvar rows of lines and 25-28 puncta in 10 µm, and valve lines ranging from 20-22 in 10 µm with 26-30 puncta in 10 µm. The cells contain small chromatophores near the cell wall, and the nucleus is situated close to the cell wall.
