Description:
The cells have an elongated shape and may be either straight or slightly curved. They have a spine-like projection at one end, and they can be found as single cells or in short chains. Their valves are either conical or somewhat conical in structure. The girdle bands are segmented and organized in vertical columns. Furthermore, numerous small chloroplasts are present within these cells.
