Description:
This species displays a significant lateral flattening, giving it a distinctly compressed appearance. It is characterized by two flagella emerging from a pore field located near the apex of the cell. Notably, Prorocentrum micans features a prominent spine at the cell’s apex. The cell’s two valves are adorned with a series of pores and depressions, contributing to its textured surface. Small pores are arranged in distinct rows that extend from the cell’s margin towards its center, while larger pores are situated at the posterior end of the cell. Additionally, closed pores or depressions can be observed along the valve margin. These cells exhibit clear pigmentation, which enhances their visual distinctiveness. Moreover, a relatively large V-shaped nucleus is positioned in the posterior half of the cell. This species stands out due to its unique cellular characteristics and the presence of these prominent features.
